Flatbush Avenue - Brooklyn College (2, 5)

Welcome to the end-of-the-line for the 2 and 5 trains. This is a primarily Black American and Afro-Caribbean diaspora stop, with some gentrification mixing into the fold.

The people out here are dressed brightly, their braids are fresh and tight, they’re bopping to their JBL speakers or even straight-up DJ’ing on a public corner.

A lot of the commerce is by-and-for locals, and if you come on a summer weekend, the chances are high you’ll walk into a street market.

Try Mr Joe or WOODstack for streetwear shopping, or Mimine Boutique for fun designs at thrift-store prices.

Try Mirna’s Pupuseria for authentic Salvadorian pupuas. It’s a bit hole-in-the-wall, and they serve up little plastic baggies of Salvadorian kimchi to go your order. It’s just so good.

Bye for now, Flatbush 25!
