This stop is a nightlife landmark. Wander around and you’ll probably end up drinking or raving.

Walk down Starr or Troutman, between St. Nicholas Ave and Irving Ave, anytime between 7pm to 4am and you’ll find a bar or club or theater or restaurant that calls to you. Weirdly, the eponymous Jefferson St. is relatively dead.

And, a note about Mondays: It can be hard to find a happening place on a Monday night in New York City. Starr and Troutman streets will give you more options than most other neighborhoods.

Here are the heavy-hitters, tickets required, right outside the station:

If you’re looking for more casual food and drink, there are soooo many options around, but you can try:

Now, if you venture on foot deep into Maspeth where the subway doesn’t even dare to go, you’ll get to the underground techno scene and warehouse raves about a 20-min walk from the station.

Ok but what’s happening during the daytime?

Street art! The Bushwick Collective is active around this station.

Vintage shopping! Try Other People’s Clothes, L Train Vintage, and honestly the streets have really lit yard sales sometimes.

Maria Hernandez Park is around here, too, and it’s got more of a pre-gentrified vibe. It’s no Central Park, but if you need a breather from the night scene, you can check it out.

Sidewalk vintage furniture shopping, right outside the station exit.

The Bushwick Collective at night.

Maria Hernandez Park

The Latinx community absolutely vibes out in Maria Hernandez Park, with cookouts and well-attended volleyball games.
