Bronx Park East (2, 5)

This stop brings you to, well, yes, the eastside of Bronx Park.

Go south along White Plains Road, though, and the auto shops soon give way to the heart of the Bronx’s Muslim-Yemeni neighborhood.

Here, the businesses are so catered to the local community that they don’t bother with English signage - Arabic is the go-to language.

To kick off your Middle Eastern experience, start at Alwaha Restaurant for classic Yemeni food, Adani chai, or a fresh-fruit milkshake. The decorations are very Allahu Akhbar, and the air is thick with musk and oud.

Around the corner is Istanbul Cafe, the local hookah hang.

Keep walking south on White Plains Road and you’ll hit Morris Park Ave, the main Yemeni thoroughfare. YOU MUST GO TO DAMASCUS SWEETS. That is all.

The vibes right outside the station
