Cleveland Street (J)
Gentrification hasn’t hit in this part of Brooklyn yet - it’s mostly Dominicans and Black Americans, with a scattering of Chinese immigrants. Spanish is the language of choice out here.
Though the area surrounding the station feels residential and muted, there’s a lot of community activity on the sidewalk, right at the station exit on Fulton St.
It’s almost like the locals use Fulton St as a communal backyard.
Think: public grilling, lawn chairs, yard sales, even kiddie pools when the whether’s nice, all out on the sidewalk.
If you’re looking for a snack in the area, try La Gran Nagua Bakery.
July 4 fun right outside the Cleveland J station eixt
Grilling outside the Shorty Meat Market on Fulton.
I spy three locals hanging out. Do you?
Peek into the gap between the fence and the convenience store; you’ll find a somewhat permanent yard sale by-and-for locals.
