Bay Ridge Avenue (R)
This station brings you to 4th Ave, but pop onto 3rd or 5th Ave to get the local flavor.
General Vibe: Lots of Arabic sweets shops and Yemeni influence, newer restaurants catering to modern gentrifiers, three-to-four story brick buildings with commerce on the bottom and residences up top.
Some old-school buildings from the early 1900s are speckled about.
How to See Bay Ridge, In General
3rd and 5th avenues are both worth a long stroll. I’d pick one, walk south till you hit the water, then u-turn to walk up the other avenue.
3rd Ave, Around This Stop
Saravá: Cute Brazilian restaurant - the food is really good.
Uncutt Bar & Restaurant: Small, cute, like if you made a dive bar a restaurant
Sweet Sofi: Hand-rolled ice cream and a popular hangout spot among locals
And a bunch of other places to eat and hang with a similar vibe to the above.
5th Ave, Around This Stop
Galaxy Comics: 90s nerd culture shop, with rows of 90s-centric snacks and candies, comics, action figures and the like. Even if you’re not into that kind of stuff, it’s still just a fun shop top browse.
Alpine Cinema: Built in 1921 and still operating today, with current and throwback films.
Matari: Fancy latte shop!
Brooklyn Baklava: Om nom
5th Ave’s Alpine Cinemas shows throwbacks and current hits
The comic shop on 5th.
3rd Avenue Vibes
Some of Bay Ridge’s older-style architecture
5th Ave Arabic/Yemeni vibes
