Bedford - Nostrand Avenues (G)
Welcome to the heart of Bed-Stuy. Residential, arty, cool.
This area is a mix of long-standing black residents and an influx of white hipsters. Is it gentrification or genuine cultural mixing? You gotta come out here to decide for yourself.
I will say: there’s a community vibe. Think: porch hangs on brownstones. If you’re a passerby, you might be welcomed for a chat.
To really explore Bed-Stuy, Project472 recommends take a long walk through the neighborhood. Walk south on Bedford or Nostrand until you hit the C Line on Fulton, and you’ll get a flavor of the area.
Here are my recommendations, in order of proximity to the station:
Coffee + Korean Food: Nostrand Coffee Roasters
Coffee + Czech Pastries: Brooklyn Kolache
Salon: Dons & Divas
Drinking Hole: Cpt. Dan’s “Good Times” Tavern
Ramen + Vintage Shopping: Samurai Papa, adjacent to Harold and Maude Vintage
Mural: Biggie!!
Art Cafe (Yes You Can Make Art Or Just Drink): Artshack Cafe/Bar/Ceramics
